Out of many, one.
Well, it's been very difficult uniting anything or anyone into one! I recently united many springs, pins, machined aluminum, steel, plastic, and polymer into into a really awesome AR-15. All of these different pieces function completely differently and not one of them can substitute for another. I took each piece and very specific instructions, but I united them together. They are now one. It isn't perfect yet, but it's really close. I'd like to add a sling, eventually a red dot sight, maybe a flashlight or a laser. The interesting thing is that I can add those pieces without changing the planned function or purpose of the AR-15. Yes, this is an analogy to the constitution.
The constitution is made of very different pieces and not one of them is alike. No, you can't substitute the 3rd amendment and quartering of soldiers for the 1st article about the legislative branch, they're not equal and it doesn't work. All the pieces together form our great constitution. Duh you say... Why is he blathering on about different parts of the constitution? Well, many people pick and choose their piece of the constitution as if it were a menu at Chili's. Yes, I'd like two servings of Freedom of the Press (1st) and a side of no cruel or unusual punishment (8th). Any dessert? No, I'm kind of full, I don't need the right to bear arms (2nd).
Like Glenn Beck recently said (paraphrased), when I leave my house I take all of my rights with me, all of them, that includes my gun.
I'm not actually going on about how important each and every piece of the constitution is, they are important. Rather I want to address the many constitutional groups out there that pick and choose pieces of the constitution that they're nutso over. The press and whiny liberals stress the need for freedom of the press and speech, to the extent that they believe they have some sort of constitutional right to privileged communication, they don't. These same groups completely ignore the freedom of religion as it was intended, for the gov to stay out of it, not force atheism down our throats. While I love the NRA and what they do, they too forget the rest of the constitution. Often they miss the point behind the second amendment. The Bill of Rights is to protect us from the government, not for us to hunt, but for us, We the People, to maintain our liberty. The second amendment is specifically for assault weapons and to take back our liberties from our oppressive government, yes, Janet, I'm talking to you too!!!
Climbing down off my soapbox a little, yes this blog is my soapbox. We need to look at the constitution and abide by it. It is the very directive instruction on how to put this country together. I didn't use an instruction manual on a Remington Nylon 66 .22 caliber long rifle to put together my AR, nor should we look to Europe, Asia, Africa of the freakin' moon to figure out how this country is supposed to function. The constitution is our guide! All the little groups need to pull together a little more so we can get this country back on track. We need somebody to stand up and say every piece of it is important, and if it was left out it was left out for good reason. Yes, the founding fathers left out the Department of Education and the Bureau of Land Management for a reason. The only person I currently see pushing all of our rights and pulling for our liberty is Glenn Beck, but he is a media personality, not to say he can't move into the political realm, but if the past is any indicator it is not likely that he will.
Who will do this for us?
